Clichés

A cliché is an expression that has been used so often it has lost its originality and effectiveness; it's worn out. In writing, clichés are missed opportunities to express an idea or detail in your own way.

Here are a few examples (there are too many to give a complete list, but you know what they are when you hear it):

  • last but not least
  • in this day and age
  • easier said than done
  • better late than never
  • out of this world
  • sick as a dog
  • tried and true
  • the thrill of the victory
  • one in a million
  • busy as a bee
