Confused Words

Confused words are ones where they sound the same but spelled differently and with completely different meanings.

There are too many to list here. Some common ones are:

  • accept, except
  • affect, effect
  • there, their, they're
  • weather, whether, wither
  • to, two, too
  • it's, its
  • your, you're
  • who's, whose

For example: Since I was the one who wrecked the car, I except the consequences. = Except means "excluding" or "but".

Correct: Since I was the one who wrecked the car, I accept the consequences. = Accept means "to receive or agree to take".
